Chemical Industry

Please find hereunder information about the use of Solvay's caustic soda in the chemical industry.

Please consult our chemical portal site to check if other products are also involved in this industry.

The characteristic properties of caustic soda make this product indispensable in a large number of chemical processes. Caustic soda is a significant raw material in the manufacture of sodium phosphates, phenol, colouring agents and a large number of sodium salts.

Caustic soda is also used successfully in various other industrial chemical operations, including the regeneration of rubber, the drying and removal of carbonate from gases, the neutralisation of carbon and oil by-products, oil refining, etc.

List of applications

Epoxy resins Epoxy resins need uses of caustic soda as a catalysing agent.
Polycarbonate In the synthesis of Polycarbonates, caustic soda plays a crucial role to obtain a pure final product.
Sodium Aluminate Production of sodium aluminate uses caustic soda solution.
Sodium phosphates Considerable quantities of caustic soda are used for sodium phosphate production.
Zeolites The synthesis of zeolites needs big amounts of the OH-ions given by caustic soda.
